When reviewing my sleep over this last week I find myself somewhat disappointed. I am going to bed around 11:00 to 11:30 then waking up around 7 in the morning. Yet the thing that upsets me is waking up during the middle of the night. Almost two to three times a night. Whether it be my partner's snore or a loud noise made by my cats, I wake very easy due to this. I want to sleep harder and better but each time I wake up I feel like I have failed. The questions I ask myself is, When I wake is it due to coming out of my deep sleep and are in the light sleep stage? By losing this sleep at night I end up taking a long nap, about 2 hours or more, or I use caffeine to supplement the loss. I want to fully understand my rhythm. I formerly use to work nights and ever since returning to working a normal shift I cannot seem to get back in a good rhythm of sleep. I sleep when I can, and take advantage of anything I can get. Sleep is my escape from the world both physically and mentally. I "sleep" but I dont feel rested ever. Hopefully through this seminar I can further understand my issues with sleep and try to restore our broken relationship.
Nice job on Blog 1. Don't be hard on yourself about wake ups during the night. We naturally wake between cycles, so you may just be lifting out of sleep too far. Most people turn over and fall right back asleep. Consider listening to an audiobook or podcast with earbuds if you wake. It might help get your mind off reality and onto a different topic, which could help you relax back into sleep.
ReplyDeleteThis class has definitely broadened my knowledge of sleep and how relevant it is in our lives as well as how imperative it is in order to feel at our best.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder at times how some people can be heavy sleepers and others can be light sleepers. And specifically what makes a person fall into one specific group. Is this inherited? Obtained through personal decisions and actions? And can you switch from one group to another?
