So, my sleep this week has been becoming more normalized. Trying to keep a schedule of going to bed at 11 and getting up to go to the gym at 5 is something me and my partner and I are trying to do. The hardest thing about waking up that early is getting out of the warm, comfy bed. Once I am up I am perfectly fine and ready for the day. The workout really jumpstarts me. Keeping the schedule is very helpful. The bad thing is that I am not reaching the 8 hours of necessary sleep thus my sleep debt is about 10 hours by the end of the week. Sleep debt, is the amount of sleep you owe ypur body. The average adult is supposed to get roughly 8 hours of sleep but I am onky getting about 6. The extra two hours add up against your body which is known as sleep debt. So, I end up sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday till 10 or 11 in the morning falling asleep the same time as I usually do during the week. Yet when calculating ny sleep debt to the amount paid during the weekend I still owe myself 2 to 4 hours of sleep. I question myself how does this add up. Will I ever be able to pay it off? If I establish a good sleep schedule of 8 hours each night, will the debt eventually be paid? All these questions come racing in as I try understand the deep mystery they call sleep.

  1. Maybe try keeping a sleep journal or keep track of how many hours you've slept on an app so that you can chart how much debt has been accumulated. I don't want you to be obsessive about it, but it helps us know what we are facing. At this point, I probably have a jillion-quadrillion sleep debt hours, but I still try to keep track from week to week of where I am.

  2. I feel like this is completely relatable to everyone in the class and maybe even the entire campus. It’s hard to get those necessary 7-8 hours of sleep every night because we’re busy trying to stay awake in order to be productive.. for the most part at least.

  3. I have to agree with Ever as well that I do not get the necessary seven to eight hours of sleep every night due to me trying to finish as much homework as I can. But it's great that you have a schedule that you stick to! I bet it is helpful as you are saying, and I'm sure its positive affects will be felt long term.
